The well-known author and algorist Professor Steven Skiena will be the featured presenter at the 2005 Topcoder Collegiate Challenge finals, held on March 10 & 11, 2005 at the Marriott hotel in Santa Clara, CA.

Skiena is author (with Miguel Revilla) of Programming Challenges: The Programming Contest Training Manual, which is the leading book on algorithmic programming techniques and contest problems. It features a special section on strategies and tactics for all major programming contests, including TopCoder.

Steven Skiena is Professor of Computer Science at SUNY Stony Brook. His research interests include the design of graph, string, and geometric algorithms, and their applications (particularly to biology). He is the author of four books, including The Algorithm Design Manual and Calculated Bets: Computers, Gambling, and Mathematical Modeling to Win. He is recipient of the ONR Young Investigator Award and the IEEE Computer Science and Engineering Undergraduate Teaching Award.

Skiena will be speaking from 1:00 – 2:00pm in the Portland/Santa Barbara room at the Santa Clara Marriott. The presentation is open to the public.
