America’s Challenge

Are you aware of America’s STEM education issue? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math and our future generation of professionals in these areas are decreasing. The statistics are staggering; enough to make your jaw drop. As we grow and prosper, we’ll be looking for that next awesome technology feature like the iPhone, an amazing app that will change our lives, more interactivity online, and literally reaching for the stars and landing on Mars.

But we cannot make incredible headways in the field of technology without the imaginative and genius minds like Jobs or Gates. This is where we need your creative talent; to help encourage the youth of today to tap into an unknown talent they may possess and pursue that talent to help all of us.

Your Challenge

Design a poster. Simple. We want a poster that entices girls into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). There are young girls in our country that have all the talent in the world to be bright and amazing. Someone just has to tell them that it is in their reach, that they can do it, and encourage them to try. Maybe you can be that someone. Design a poster for young women in every state of the United States that gives them the encouragement they may need to one day be great

It may be a hard challenge, but we didn’t say it’d be easy. Up for it?

Contest Summary

Welcome to the STEM poster design contest. The goal of this contest is to design a poster with an overall theme of girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The poster needs to attract the attention of young American girls in grades 6th – 12th and deliver a core message about the exciting opportunities in STEM. We want them to get excited about technology opportunities and with the help of the poster design, motivate them to seek more information in one of these fields.

Full Description & Project Guide

Primary Goals

The goal of this contest is to design a poster that represents and encourages girls to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We want a poster designed that relates to young girls and will help spark their interest in pursuing a STEM related field of study later on in life. You have the choice to use our theme of “Choose2Matter” or your own theme. Choose2Matter is a call to action that demands that people recognize their own genius and contribute it to our world.

Learn more about the Choose2Matter initiative here and also learn how it can influence young women to consider STEM careers.

Be creative!. You can come up with any ideas and show them through your design, as long as they represent STEM and make the observer (girls) want to read and learn more about it. The sky is the limit!

Please note: You are not required to use the words STEM in the poster nor list out what STEM stands for. Use your discretion.

There will be an initial screening of all poster submissions. Competitors will be notified if their poster submisison will be on display at the 2013 TopCoder Open STEM poster design gallery. The gallery will be open to contest judges and youth audiences to view and cast their vote.

You can ask questions in this forum for any questions and clarifications.
