Two of our Studio TCO Finalists, DaraK & FXStudio, prepared a little guest blog post:
Although the final goodbye post was here a few days ago we cannot close without saying a few words about our Studio blogger.
There are a lot of new things everyone found out about studio designers during TCO thanks to Luis. But we also found some curios fact about him.
Did you know Luis never saw snow? He missed the first snowflakes covering the ground, sledding over a hill, skiing and many others. But – heey! He lives in Venezuela, a beautiful country where the weather is mostly warm during the year with the coldest average temperature at 14 °C. I bet he would freeze at – 15 °C !!

Today I was reading my first TCO12 blog post, it was like watching an old picture full of memories, some feelings started to shake this body – I’m not going to say I’m nostalgic; I’m not going to say it!

It’s been three weeks since TCO12, what a great tournament. Do you remember we have a new Studio Champion, right? It’s been only three weeks; don’t tell me you already forgot. I’m here to remind you iamtong is the Studio Champion with an exclusive interview.

- Interview with our Algorithm Champion : Egor
-
It is over a week since the final algorithm round and the award ceremony in which Egor was announced as the 2012 champion. As we recall, the final problem set turned out to be very tough and only two coders were able to pass system tests in the "easy" problem. Of them, Egor got the best score. It was both speed and experience, while he made the fastest submission, he was also able to quickly recognize a mistake and made a resubmission. Most of the other finalists were not able to estimate all the corner cases. There were of course other factors, if meret did not get those two successful challenges and/or instead found a bug with one of the solutions that eventually failed system tests, it could have been different.
It is time for an interview. So I took advantage of yesterday's usual chat opportunities before SRM 557 to get Egor give me an exclusive.

- Hello sponsors and contributors
-
When you hear sponsor for this kind of event I guess you think of money, or recruiters. I’d like to contribute with a different perspective on this thought. If you go to a TCO you would realize it’s more than that. In the end they are persons who work, eat, live, just like you. I had several sponsors this year doing the “Hello TCO” sign for us; they were great and responsive, willing to follow my directions even when they knew I would push their creativity. I’d like to share some of their cool pictures with their creative chalkboard work.
Pocket Gems took like 40 minutes to draw this piece of work, awesome!
- Hello TCO
-
Hola again! During the first months of my blogging adventure I started to post this “Hello Studio” wave series thanks to the collaboration of my fellow community members. Basically, they just posed for the camera holding a canvas with a message for the community (also see wave 2, wave 3). After appreciating the cool results I realized we could do something bigger with this small idea, something onsite, something we could do to send a message to the community.
With no further comments, here’s what we had onsite to say something to TopCoder community:
That’s how it started
- Dismissed

It is good to be back at home. That TCO 2012 tournament is by now a thing of the past. Rest assured that it was fun. It is time to say bye.
But there are many things I still have to say!
Watching the finals live
I would like to acknowledge that while it was cool watching all the final competitions live using those screens. But I have to highlight the Mod Dash and Studio finals specifically. The Studio finals were cool in that you could see how those designers flesh out the looks of a mobile application using only some guidelines and templates as base. The big advantage the studio track has is that it is a very visual thing and you can understand it without much background.
- It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s Yoki
-
Let’s keep hanging with our Studio finalists, we’ve been meeting and exposing curious facts about them. This time we have yoki, who had an impressive performance at TCO12 by the way, jumping from the bottom of the table from the first round to get the 2nd place at the end of the competition.
Yoki likes to rock, his favorite musician is Paul Gilbert. He loves The Simpsons Movie, “it always have me laughing” – that’s what he said.
Did you know yoki lives in Surabaya? That’s an iconic city, cultural reference for Indonesian since there took place the Battle of Surabaya, a memorable effort during their independence battle. Don’t forget to say hi to your Indonesian friends this November 10th because it is “Hari Pahlawan” (Heroes’ Day).
Surabaya is also known as “The City of Heroes” – we had one at TCO12! Now I regret I didn’t take my autographs book
