Background
Hewlett Packard’s HAVEn platform lets you collect, index and query massive volumes of data across Hadoop and other enterprise sources for faster, better decisions. The platform has been opened up for Developers to build their own Big Data and Analytics applications. Explore the Big Data Use Cases on http://dev.hp.com/haven for more information.
HAVEn is a rapidly evolving platform, with initial capabilities for Developers already exposed through IDOL OnDemand (http://idolondemand.com), Vertica Community Edition (https://my.vertica.com/community/?cmp=70150000000gm1MAAQ), and ArcSight Logger (http://hp.com/go/logger). There is a lot more in the pipeline, but these are the initial capabilities already available for you to start developing with today.
HP HAVEn Big Data & Analytics App Challenge
HP is putting incredible power at your fingertips. How will you put it use?
This is a challenge to identify a compelling “Big Data” use case and define how you would use the HAVEn platform to build a HAVEn app to solve that problem. The deliverable for this challenge is a document that describes an application that uses combinations of Apache Hadoop, IDOL OnDemand, Vertica, apps from the Vertica Marketplace, and/or ArcSight Logger to solve a business problem.
The document should be no more than two pages. The winners will be selected by HP based on potential business and market impact. Applications that can be implemented and deployed rapidly will receive extra credit.
Final Submission Guidelines
- Additional information about the challenge guidelines can be found in the attached document.
- A Microsoft Word or RTF document describing the business problem solved by your application, and giving detailed descriptions about the HAVEn components being used. How is your HAVEn app solving a problem related to Big Data?
- Your submission should include usage of no less than two components, but of course you can use as many as you like.
- You’re submission should be 2 pages or less.
- Graphics and illustrations are welcome provided they don’t expand the size of your submission beyond the 2 page limit.
Employees and direct and indirect subcontractors of Hewlett-Packard Company and its subsidiaries and other affiliates (“HP”), and employees and direct and indirect subcontractors of HP’s partners (including TopCoder and its affiliates) are not eligible to participate in the challenge.
